What is Chinese Chippendale?

Chinese Chippendale refers to a style of architecture and design initially created by Thomas Chippendale, whereby the open fretwork of railings, balustrades, and furniture infill between top and bottom framing and vertical supports has a lattice-like series of interlocking diagonals. This style of design has also come to embrace elements of Chinoiserie such as faux bamboo carved framing and a more casual look that is far less ornate than Rococo, French Empire, or any of the more maximal design styles of Europe. Today, the Chinese Chippendale style that has evolved since Thomas Chippendale's creation and inspiration is truly timeless.
